Remember—The Key to Finding What You’ve Been Looking For

There’s a reason this blog is called Beautiful. Ugly. Me. The last few months have been undeniably difficult, but here’s the thing. They’ve been beautiful, too…and I missed it.

I was flipping back through some of the photos from the last few weeks and am in awe of what I found. I’m overwhelmed by the fact that the inanimate lens of my iPhone picked up what I failed to see.

So I’m taking a moment to step back and remind myself, and hopefully you, that goodness is available for those with eyes to see. That if I’m patient, I’ll stop sabotaging myself and find what I’ve been looking for all along.

The view from our cottage just as the golden light bends across the horizon. There’s a reason they call this time of day the golden hour.

I cannot get over the blue of Lake Michigan stretching long into the horizon, reaching for the light piercing purple clouds. There’s no filter on this pic of the breakers outside Point Betsie Lighthouse.
And what’s a visit to the beach without a gorgeous sunset? I just love the fact that the beautiful show only occurs when light is bent hard over the horizon forcing the light to shatter into the most difficult color for the human eye to perceive—red.

A flower falls, but the glitter on the petals begged for a photograph. It’s a happy coincidence that my phone camera picked up the fuschia in the light pouring from the sky.

This dry, crusty seed pod was laying in the sun, baking on my driveway. I have no idea where it came from and it’s the only one I’ve seen in the 8 years we’ve lived in our house. I love its obnoxious, threatening horns warning off any would-be snacker. It performed its duty well and now, just a husk, but reminding me it all it gave up for its potential.

    1. They are great reminders. Our vacation was such a blur that my husband and I literally used my photos to piece together what all happened and when. Things like that happen when your hubby has surgery in the middle of it and your son comes down with pneumonia 🙂

  1. “…the beautiful red show only occurs when light is bent hard over the horizon forcing the light to shatter into the most difficult color for the human eye to perceive—red.” Janyre, thank you for being the color red. ❤️

    1. Aren’t you absolutely the sweetest person out there!? You are such an encouragement to me. I love that you are a part of my community. Thank you.

  2. I so related to this: “The last few months have been undeniably difficult, but here’s the thing. They’ve been beautiful, too…and I missed it.”

Our family is on the upswing of the hardest year of our life. In my grief and pain I lost some precious moments. But God is healing our hearts and we’re moving forward closer to Him and to each other.

Those pictures are little God kisses for you. They are beautiful! You didn’t miss it! You shared it with us.

I don’t know what you’ve faced, but I pray you will soon be on the other side of the difficult times.

    1. I’m so sorry for all the difficulties in your life. I’ll be praying for healing and peace. We’ve just had more than a few health issues, but I think (perhaps!) we’re on the other side. Thank you for the prayers.
